Austin Energy Audits

Energy Audits are now required for certain homes.  Check the City of Austin Ordinance link below or call Austin Energy to see if your home will need the audit.  Generally speaking the ordinance requires energy audits for homes 10 years old or older before they can be sold and that the audit results be disclosed before the sale.  Homes must be in the City of Austin and receive electricity from Austin Energy.  Exceptions apply so check the Ordinance link for all details.

What Are Green Energy Audits?

The City of Austin passed Ordinance No. 20081106-047 adding Chapters 6-7 to the City Code requiring all residential properties within the city limits, 10 years or older, who receive services from the Austin Electric Utility and that are on the market for sale to have an energy audit completed by a certified auditor prior to sale.

For the purpose of the City’s Energy Efficiency Upgrade Ordinance, only BPI OR RESNET certified auditors who are ALSO certified by Austin Energy will be recognized to perform energy audits for single and multi-family homes identified under the Austin Energy Ordinance.
